eduK • My Finances

At eduK, we would work under a different management style, called Self management (holacracy). One of my roles was called Entrepreneur’s Manager, and I also had a full-stack software engineer working with me. Our purpose: improve the income for subscribers that were entrepreneurs.

Problem
When we started working this role, we created a list of problems we would like to solve. They were real pain points our subscribers felt. We decided to focus on the most basic one: finances. We analysed some research data we had available, and 70% of our subscribers didn’t know how to keep track of their finances. Also, 55% of them didn’t watch any courses about entrepreneurship or finances – they prefer to focus on learning or improving technical skills. We also didn’t have any available metric that would tell us if we were delivering any value.

Solution
We decided to build a new feature, called My Finances. It would allow subscribers to enter their goals, income and expanses. That way, we would be helping them to get organised, keep track of their money and start caring about it once they could see – through charts and tables – what’s happening to their money. We’re also building a feature that would help decreasing churn, since users would have not only access to the courses, but their entire financial history. MVP of the feature would be quite simple, and we would test it with a group of 400 very engaged users for quick feedback and iteration.
